Air passengers may now get full refund if they cancel or reschedule ticket within 48 hours of booking
3+ week, 5+ day ago (369+ words) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is drafting new rules that could allow travellers to cancel or amend their tickets without paying additional charges within 48 hours of booking. The aviation regulator has also suggested that when a ticket is purchased through a travel agent or online portal, the "onus of refund shall lie with the airlines as agents are their appointed representatives". According to the DGCA's draft, airlines will be required to provide a "look-in option" for a period of 48 hours after booking. "During this period, passengers can cancel or amend the ticket without any additional charges, except for the normal prevailing fare for the revised flight for which the ticket is sought to be amended," the draft said. However, the facility will not apply to flights scheduled to depart within five days for domestic routes or 15 days for…...
China’s proposed power bank rules could ban most devices from flights
6+ hour, 16+ min ago (210+ words) China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has proposed sweeping new regulations for portable power banks, raising concerns among manufacturers and consumers. The draft document, open for public feedback until December 11, would require all power banks made in China to list their battery type, production date and recommended safe use duration. At the moment, domestic passengers can only carry power banks with China Compulsory Certification. This requirement has already led to confiscations of popular international models such as Apple's MagSafe battery pack. Products without the 3C mark cannot be sold in China at all. Until then, passengers can continue travelling with their 3C certified power banks. Once the new rules take effect, there will be a six to twelve month grace period to help the industry and consumers adjust. As the world's largest producer of power banks, China's decisions will have global…...
Death toll in Louisville UPS plane crash rises to 9

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board arrived on site Wednesday to begin the process of finding out what went wrong when the 34-year-old MD-11 cargo plane caught fire around 5:13 p.m. ET Tuesday and then crashed. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said nine dead people had been found at the scene of the crash. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said he expected there would be at least one more death. The plane had a crew of three according to UPS and officials said none of the crew survived. Beshear on Wednesday declared a state of emergency to help with the massive response to the crash site....
Why UPS was still flying 34-year-old cargo plane that crashed in Louisville
3+ week, 4+ day ago (449+ words) The UPS cargo plane that crashed in Louisville on Tuesday was a 34-year old jet. While that's old for a passenger plane, that's not so unusual in the world of air cargo. Authorities have not found any indication so far that the plane's age played a role in the crash, which killed at least nine people shortly after takeoff from Louisville, Kentucky, on Tuesday evening. The cause remains under investigation. The incident, however, underscores how aircraft can remain in service far longer than the average flyer realizes. Typically, airliners are retired due to poor fuel efficiency rather than structural wear. Since cargo aircraft operate fewer flight hours'about 30% less than passenger jets'fuel economy becomes less of a determining factor in their longevity. And while there are still MD-11's flying cargo, the last passenger flight for the jet came more than a…...

1+ week, 5+ day ago (273+ words) Airbus SE managed a comeback on the second day of the Dubai Air Show, reeling in deals with local carriers Etihad Airways and Flydubai and an accord for its A350 widebody model from Air Europa. The agreements injected fresh momentum back into Airbus after Boeing Co. dominated the first day with a huge order for 65 777X aircraft valued at $38 billion from Emirates. The memorandum of understanding from Flydubai for 150 A321neo planes on Tuesday gave Airbus the added satisfaction of winning a client that had so far only purchased from Boeing. The companies didn't announce an order value.
