Here’s what is happening in and around Colorado’s “airport city”

7+ mon, 3+ week ago (1782+ words) There aren't a lot of places, candidly, that you can take a look at 16,000 acres and say, you know, how can we build an aerotropolis, or a city around an airport? It's a phenomenal opp" Denver International Airport served more than 80 million passengers in 2024, generates more than $47 billion for the region annually and owns more land than any other airport in the world except for one, Saudi Arabia's King Fahd International Airport. DIA is the site of dozens of ongoing developments, including new hotels, a state-of-the-art flight training center and significant industrial growth. Airport representatives and municipalities are working together to transform surrounding undeveloped areas into an airport city," positioning DIA as a key hub for commerce in the region. Flights delayed at Denver International Airport amid ground stop

5+ mon, 3+ week ago (163+ words) The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop Thursday morning at Denver International Airport, causing delays for flights headed in and out of the airport. The FAA issued the ground stop at DIA at 7 a.m. for "low ceilings," which refers to the lowest level of cloud cover, according to the agency's website. The ground stop is scheduled through at least 8:15 a.m. Thursday. As of 7:30 a.m., 84 flights had been delayed at DIA and one had been canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware. Southwest delayed 62 of those flights, followed by eight from SkyWest, seven from United, three from Alaska Airlines, two from Volaris, one from Aer Lingus and one from American Airlines. DIA passenger growth stalls but airport ranks #1 for U.S. destinations

1+ mon, 2+ week ago (676+ words) After decades of passenger traffic growth at Denver International Airport, the surge has stalled this year, slowing progress toward Denver's 100 million travelers-a-year target. But DIA recently snagged first place among U.S. airports for nonstop domestic destinations " travelers can fly to 197 " and continues to set records for international traffic. This "connectivity, some analysts say, will be the ultimate measure of the airport's success. Denver's passenger traffic target has become "a stupid goal for measuring airport value, said Mike Boyd, a Colorado-based aviation industry consultant, because passenger metrics depend largely on whether airlines offer good deals " largely beyond DIA's control. "The real issue is how many points you can access from an airport. How many international flights can you access from here? Boyd said, adding that new nonstop flights from Denver to Morocco, Poland, and Spain would make sense. "The traditional thinking has…...
